The Arts - Creating the Best Citizens for the Future!
“The world is a complicated place, and there’s a lot of division between people. The performing arts tend to unify people in a way nothing else does.” – David Rubenstein (Chairman of the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts)
The arts should not be seen as the cherry on top of a great academic dessert. Generally viewed as the less important and somewhat “bludge” subjects at school; dance, drama, music and art act as the building blocks to creative, empathetic and resilient problem solvers in the future.
The Federal Government has proposed making sport compulsory for all Australian schools with recent findings that it is linked to improved academic results and not just a ploy to produce future Olympians.
Interestingly, the same could be said for the performing arts.
There are numerous benefits and personal development gained from participating in dance, drama, music and art, including:
Greater proficiency in reading and literacy skills
Looking at the world’s highest ranking countries in mathematics and science like Japan and the Netherlands – dance, drama and music are compulsory subjects within the school curriculum.
It is highly collaborative and sometimes competitive. It teaches kids that there is not only one single way to achieve a goal and you must persist in creative thinking in order to achieve the best outcome.
Resilience, empathy and compassion
For children to be able to listen to and understand what it is they are feeling and how to express it in a creative way helps build understanding of others feelings and emotions.
We find that at KidsCo, children will dance when they hear a song! It’s fun and as simple as that! We need to put aside our obsession with sport in Australia and look at what areas of the curriculum are being neglected.
The above quote reflects what KidsCo is all about. Bringing people together through fun and excitement of our program makes us love what we do!
We strive to continue embracing the little individuals that our kids are. We want to see them grow into strong, resilient and creative people, ready for anything!
