Corrs Case Study 1

Corrs saves 96% in sick leave & increases staff engagement by 94%

Corrs Chambers Westgarth (Corrs) reported to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) that 97% of primary carers in their workplace were women. After further investigation, Corrs discovered that the school holiday periods have a decrease in engagement and productivity due to juggling childcare and workplace responsibilities. A bulk of Corrs employees with primary carer responsibilities would take time off during the school holidays for childcare purposes which would increase the workload for their colleagues.

Key Challenges

  1. Implementing impactful support for their parental employees
  2. Decreased productivity and engagement during school holidays
  3. Large amount of sick leave taken during the school holidays

KidsCo was engaged to facilitate a week long school holiday program designed for 5 – 12 year olds that aligned with their company’s culture and values. The onsite program took place at the Corrs Melbourne-based head office in the CBD. The KidsCo program was used as a solution for Corrs’ primary carers who were struggling to find care arrangements, taking leave for childcare responsibilities and to help reduce the workload for non-parental employees.

Over the school holiday program period, Corrs saw an improvement in the following:

  • 96% of employees took less sick time off for childcare responsibilities
  • 94% of employees were more engaged in their work which impacted productivity
  • 93% of employees felt the programs created an inclusive Family Friendly Workplace

My daughters loved the experience of seeing where I work. What would be beneficial is if Corrs extended the program for more than 1 week during the school holidays. My daughters are already looking forward to the next school holidays and hope they can return to the office and to the program.
